Position Summary
This developmental position is designed to cultivate your skills in computer science by engaging you in hands-on projects that address theoretical and practical challenges. You will support and learn from experienced professionals in a dynamic environment focused on system acquisition, software development, and applied research.
Key Responsibilities
At the GS-07 Level:
- Assist in performing routine tasks and participate in more complex system evaluations.
- Help identify computer system deficiencies through studies and analyses.
- Support special projects involving software development and solution implementation.
- Contribute to research to enhance system effectiveness and efficiency.
At the GS-09 Level:
- Apply algorithms, modeling, and simulation techniques to specific project components.
- Assist with research, testing, evaluation, and the development of acquisition strategies.
- Support the development of software tools and solutions for use by senior professionals and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
Basic Education Requirement:
- A bachelor’s degree in computer science OR a bachelor’s degree in another field with at least 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science (including 15 hours in statistics/mathematics with calculus).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Foundational knowledge of computer science theories, digital systems, and software design.
- Ability to apply scientific methods and analysis to problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Capable of contributing to interdisciplinary research and software solutions.
Eligibility
- Current students must be enrolled full-time in a college or graduate program and have completed at least one year of coursework.
- Recent graduates must have completed a qualifying degree program within the last 2 years (6 years for veterans with military service obligations).
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- A minimum GPA of 2.95 on a 4.0 scale is expected.
