Summary
Position: Recreation Assistant (Performing Arts)
Location: USAG Benelux, SHAPE Performing Arts Center, SHAPE, Belgium
Join our team at the SHAPE Performing Arts Center and help bring high-quality performing arts programs to our community! As a Recreation Assistant, you will deliver dance instruction for children, choreograph performances, and support the daily operations and productions at the Performing Arts Center.
Who May Apply
This position is open to:
- U.S. Citizens currently living within the commuting area of SHAPE, Belgium (excluding those ordinarily resident in Belgium).
- U.S. resident alien family members of U.S. sponsors who are citizens of NATO countries other than Belgium and who possess a valid U.S. Green Card and Social Security Number.
- Non-U.S. Nationals must have resided continuously in the United States or a U.S. Territory for at least three years immediately prior to federal employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach dance classes for children ages 6–18, including students with special needs.
- Develop and choreograph dance pieces for recitals, workshops, revues, and stage productions.
- Assist with costumes, makeup, props, and basic set construction.
- Perform general administrative duties, such as maintaining records, monitoring inventory, and requesting supplies as needed.
- Conduct basic maintenance on equipment; report items needing repairs beyond first-level maintenance.
Conditions of Employment
- Must be a U.S. Citizen or meet the listed eligibility requirements.
- Direct deposit and a valid Social Security Number are required.
- Must pass all qualification checks, background investigations, and a health screening with required immunizations.
- A one-year probationary period may be required.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- At least 3 months of experience participating in variety shows, bands, plays, or similar performing arts activities.
- Experience in building sets and scenery, and assisting with performances, workshops, or recitals.
Highly Preferred Experience:
- Teaching dance to children ages 6–18, including those with special needs.
- Choreographing for performances, recitals, workshops, or revues.

Additional Information
- Work Schedule: This position requires rotating shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- PCS Costs: Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs are not authorized.
- Allowances: Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) and Post Allowance are not authorized.
Night and Sunday pay differentials may apply when eligible. - Employment must comply with the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) restrictions.
- Off-Duty Military may apply for flexible positions with command approval.
