Duties
Note: Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based on the position and grade level.
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care in hospitals, clinics, occupational health units, schools, communities, or patient homes.
- Administer anesthesia and provide supportive treatments for patients undergoing surgical or medical procedures.
- Promote health education, develop and deliver training, and conduct research within the nursing field.
- Provide guidance and consultation to other nurses delivering direct patient care.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
- A degree or diploma in professional nursing from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted nursing license (RN) in a U.S. State, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory.
- Additional qualification requirements vary by grade level (GS-05 to GS-15). Refer to the OPM Nurse Series 0610 Qualification Standard for complete details.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)
Your application will be evaluated on your proficiency in the following areas:
- Professional nursing theories, principles, and practices for performing moderately complex assignments.
- Pharmacological knowledge, including uses, side effects, and potential complications.
- Administrative documentation standards for patient care and treatment plans.
- Proficiency in using specialized medical equipment (e.g., resuscitators, cardiac monitors, ventilators).
- Ability to assess patient needs, develop care plans, and monitor changes in condition.
Education
If you are qualifying based on education, you must provide transcripts with your application (official transcripts will be required prior to appointment). Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
