Overview:
Join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Structural Engineer serving as a national expert and principal advisor within the Dam Safety Production Center. This GS-14 level position supports high-priority dam safety modification projects across the South Pacific Division, offering the opportunity to lead innovative engineering solutions that ensure public safety and infrastructure resilience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as lead structural engineer and subject matter expert on complex dam safety modifications, both domestically and internationally.
- Oversee, review, and guide junior technical specialists and multidisciplinary teams.
- Design and analyze structural elements of concrete and embankment dams, tunnels, outlet works, rock anchors, gates, and seismic retrofits.
- Provide critical input for dam safety risk assessments, potential failure mode analyses, and instrumentation evaluations.
- Prepare design documentation reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, and safety modification reports.
- Develop and manage architect-engineer contracts related to dam safety engineering.
Qualifications:
Basic Requirement (Civil Engineering Series, GS-0810):
A. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
OR
B. Combination of education and experience as defined by OPM standards (includes registration as a PE, FE exam, or specified coursework).
In Addition, Candidates Must Have:
- At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, including structural design/analysis related to dam safety for concrete and embankment dams and associated hydraulic structures (tunnels, gates, outlet works, seismic design, etc.), and risk assessments.
- A current and valid Professional Engineer (PE) license issued by a U.S. state, territory, or jurisdiction.
Note: Substitution of education for experience is not permitted for this position.
Conditions of Employment:
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license.
- May require Public Trust (TIER 2) and/or SECRET clearance.
- One-year probationary period may be required.
- PCS (relocation) and recruitment incentives may be authorized.
