Position Overview
Join the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Structural Engineer, supporting critical infrastructure projects including river navigation systems, flood control reservoirs, and major civil works. You will serve as a Project Engineer and Technical Manager, overseeing the structural design, coordination, and delivery of large-scale multidisciplinary projects. The role involves extensive collaboration with contractors, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure successful execution of engineering efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide structural design and analysis for new construction and rehabilitation of complex civil works including locks, dams, bridges, retaining walls, gates, and vertical structures.
- Prepare detailed Design Documentation Reports, calculations, engineering estimates, and specifications using software such as STAAD Pro, LPile, PCA sP, RISA, Inventor, Revit, MathCAD, and Excel.
- Develop contract drawings in coordination with CAD/BIM teams using CADD and BIM technologies.
- Lead and coordinate multi-discipline engineering teams; manage project scope, budget, schedule, and quality assurance.
- Serve as Structural Lead on assigned projects, ensuring designs meet technical, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Support construction efforts by reviewing transmittals, RFIs, and submittals, and resolving structural design issues during execution.
- Conduct inspections and assessments of infrastructure assets (e.g., hydraulic steel structures, bridges, and concrete works); develop engineering reports with recommendations.
Qualifications
Basic Requirement:
Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited program OR equivalent education/experience as outlined by OPM qualification standards.
Specialized Experience:
Must have at least one year of specialized experience (GS-11 equivalent) in:
- Designing and analyzing structural systems related to bridges and vertical construction.
- Preparing full structural design packages including drawings, specs, and reports.
- Overseeing engineering teams or contractors in design execution and review.
Software Proficiency:
Experience with structural design tools such as STAAD Pro, LPile, PCA sP Suite, RISA, Revit, Inventor, and MathCAD is highly desirable.

- May be subject to a one-year probationary period
- Must be able to obtain favorable background investigation
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) up to 15% may be required
