Position Type: Officer (O-1 to O-5)

The Washington Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Flight Instructor to join the 141st Operations Group at Fairchild Air Force Base. This Title 32 position supports the training, evaluation, and operational readiness of aircrews and flight instructors. The selected candidate will lead flight instruction and assessment missions, develop and implement flight training curricula, and coordinate operational readiness programs to meet national defense objectives.

Eligibility:
Open to current members of the Washington Air National Guard, including:

  • Permanent/Indefinite Employees (Air)
  • Traditional Guard Members
  • Active Guard Reserve (AGR)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive flight instruction and evaluations for aircrews on unit-equipped aircraft.
  • Deliver ground and flight training to ensure Basic Aircraft Qualification (BAQ), Mission Qualification, Continuation Training, and Upgrade Training.
  • Instruct on Special Capability missions such as CSAR, MAFFS, and Presidential Support.
  • Develop mission training plans, simulate operational environments, and conduct evaluations under diverse conditions including day/night and instrument flight.
  • Serve as a senior operational authority (Supervisor of Flying, Operations Supervisor) ensuring risk-managed, safe flight operations.
  • Administer the Standardization and Evaluation Program, including flight evaluations and emergency procedures testing.
  • Manage flying schedules and flight hour programs aligned with mission and resource planning.
  • Maintain wartime and peacetime contingency plans and coordinate with command and control entities.
  • Support unit safety programs and promote compliance with Air Force, ANG, and OSHA standards.

Qualifications:

General Experience:

  • One year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade or comparable military rank.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of aviation operations and instruction.

Specialized Experience:

  • Minimum 24 months of experience in military or civilian aviation programs.
  • Proficiency in piloting and instructing on military aircraft.
  • Experience conducting mission planning, aircraft inspections, emergency procedures, and crew briefings.
  • Demonstrated experience in operational and training flight environments, including evaluations and scenario-based instruction.
  • Familiarity with regulations from the Air Force, FAA, and NGB.
  • Experience in standardization/evaluation, safety programs, and mission execution.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required.
  • Graduate degree or completion of a professional military education school preferred.
  • Must hold FAA or military aviation certifications.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be or become assigned to compatible AFSCs: 11M2F, 11M3F.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Compliance with Selective Service registration (for males born after Dec. 31, 1959).
  • Subject to Lautenberg Amendment restrictions.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be required to work non-standard duty hours.
