Job description: Responsibilities:

  • Manage a credit portfolio with a diverse mix of industry (Manufacturing and Construction) and other risk factors to minimize credit exposure while not unduly hindering business/sales objectives nor the customer experience
  • Provide leadership and share/implement best practices in this key governance role by working closely with other credit team members and business/finance/IT colleagues
  • Proactively assess and monitor critical risk areas and provide appropriate reporting visibility risks, remediation action plans (including process/control improvements, customer follow ups or credit terms and condition changes), accountabilities and timelines
  • Support management in setting and achieving key performance metrics including DSO and AFDA/bad debt experience
  • Day to day credit functions include but are not limited to:

+ Analyze new and existing accounts to assess credit risk on larger accounts; approve and set limits & payments terms in accordance with credit policy and authorization level; including the analysis of customer financials and commercial reporting
+ Contact customers on past due invoices and short payments on assigned portfolios and collection escalation
+ Supervise assigned staff and all related activities (performance management, training, etc.)
+ Provides training to new and existing credit staff with assigned business units
+ Monitor and provide suggested provisioning for allowance of doubtful accounts
+ Compliance to credit policies and operating procedures (e.g. periodic credit reviews)
+ Approval of bad debt write-off, assignment of accounts to outside collections/legal referral in conjunction with Corporate Policy and delegation of authority
+ Ensure integrity of customer master data file and billing accuracy and legal requirements
+ Managing credit insurance programs
+ Communicate effectively with internal and external customers on various matters related to cash application, master file management and collections

Role Requirements:

  • University undergraduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or Commerce is preferred
  • Minimum 5-7 years credit and collection experience preferably in Construction or Manufacturing
  • Finance/credit or other professional certifications an asset
  • Prior experience working with automated credit aggregation/workflow/AI tools would be beneficial
  • Strong credit management acumen and leadership skills and effective reporting and verbal communication skills
  • Comprehensive financial analysis capability
  • Ability to negotiate and problem solve effectively with customers without impairing the relationship
  • Good working knowledge of the credit complexities associated with construction and manufacturing (e.g. Construction Lien Act, Project bonds, progressive billing)
  • Supervisory experience preferred in leading teams in a multi ERP/business unit environment
  • Strong customer service and dispute resolution skills
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Ability to work autonomously, seek direction/clarity when needed and manage competing priorities
