Come be a part of our mission!What You’ll get to Do:Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) seeks to fill a Manager of Hardware Engineering 3 position based in Annapolis, MD. In this manager of managers and technical leader role, the selected candidate will report to the Oceanic Director of Engineering & Sciences and will be responsible for the overall direction, leadership, and management of the Mechanical engineering organization; a team comprised of approximately 90 engineers and scientists of varying levels of experience and growth. The selected candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other E&S and business leaders, as well as other enabling functions to meet our commitments and address/resolve challenges in a timely manner.Specific responsibilities include:Providing the personnel, processes, and tools to meet the current and future needs of the programs and technologies.Leadership in the development, design, implementation, application, training, costing, and product support for state-of-the-art solutions in support of captures, programs, and research & development.Functional leadership to include goal setting, performance management, employee development, annual reviews, and managing budgets required to perform their statements of work.Additionally, the selected candidate must be able to support program tasks as an individual contributor and/or technical leader for as much as 50% of their total work time.The successful candidate must be able to leverage leadership abilities, established processes, and best practices to achieve sustainable top performance, a commitment to ethics and integrity, and the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. The successful candidate must also possess the ability to balance programmatic needs to deliver results within cost, schedule, and quality parameters while encouraging and rewarding innovative behaviors. Demonstrated abilities to build diverse and inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are essential. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Finally, the successful candidate must have demonstrated success in influencing the direction of technology discriminators, including identifying and championing change within the organization to achieve competitive advantage for the business.Basic Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Math, or a closely related technical field with 9 years of professional relevant experience; Master’s degree with 7 years of professional relevant experience; or a PhD with 5 years of professional relevant experience.Must have 5+ years of Management or Leadership experience overseeing a team of people in an official capacityProficiency in technical problem solving to include decomposition, root cause analysis, and corrective actions development, implementation, and progress checks.Previous experience in Functional People Management, namely in an engineering environment.Demonstrated experience in driving team success toward meeting cost, schedule, and technical performance for complex programs.Working knowledge of functional management skills such as Staffing, Engineering Metrics, Training resources, Functional Processes, and Tools.Experience briefing high level management, executives, and customersUS Citizenship required.Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret clearance.Preferred Qualifications:Experience growing and leading diverse technical teams.Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a closely related STEM field15+ years of related undersea/maritime/aerospace domain and/or defense industry experienceDemonstrated experience with one of more of the follow: maritime surface / underwater vehicles, structures, sensors, payloads, or launch and recovery equipmentActive Top Secret / SCI clearance Salary Range: $156,800 – $235,200
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
