We are responsible for the County road and levee systems, sewer systems, airports, ferries, building permits, environmental review, sustainability, community planning, and code enforcement – just to name a few!How to be Successful in the Role: To be successful as an Engineering Technician 3 with Pierce County, you will use your leadership for the crew and a high level of knowledge in surveying methods, techniques, and principles coupled with software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, GIS, and Leica Infiniti. You will handle multiple projects in the office or field working as both a team and independently to make decisions with a focus of time management and project completion. Accuracy of complex mathematical calculations, data collection, recording, and communication is essential to ensure complete understanding for supervisors, engineers, and project managers. - Participate as a lead in a variety of land survey operations such as boundary location, topography, leveling, design construction, as-builts, and maintaining survey control assets.
- Reviews construction plans and specifications for conformance to pre-established Pierce County standards.
- Conduct project research, and interpret record data, surveys and plats for property and boundary determination.
- Ensuring proper field survey operations and procedures are followed such as traverse and control layout, use of GNSS – RTN data, electronic and manual stake-out and data collection, monument recovery and preservation, equipment calibration and troubleshooting, and traffic safety procedures.
- Input surveying calculations and information into data collectors and computer systems utilizing coordinate geometry and computer aided drafting programs to produce final drawings and calculations.
- Compute and analyze the accuracy and completeness of field data, notes, design plans, reports, sketches, and electronic media.
- Ensure accurate collection object codes and editing, recording of field survey data, topographic renderings, and surface drawing models.
- Prepare and verify mathematical calculations related to surveying and basic engineering, including horizontal and vertical traverse adjustments.
- Use interpersonal skills to interact and effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisory and county staff, contractors, and the general public so as to exchange information, receive work direction and convey a professional organizational image.
- Train and mentor junior survey technicians to improve their surveying skills and knowledge.
- Adhere to safety guidelines and regulations while performing surveying tasks to ensure the well-being of the survey team.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
- Two years of college or post-high school technical training, AND
- Two or more years of progressively responsible related experience.
- Additional experience may substitute equally for the recruiting requirements.
- A valid Washington State driver’s license may be required when travel is required of the position.
