Responsibilities
The Division of Endocrinology in Rochester is seeking a candidate for a full-time faculty position committed to clinical and academic excellence in thyroid disease diagnosis and management. The selected candidate will also have the potential to be involved in clinical research, such as clinical trials dedicated to thyroid autoimmunity and thyroid-focused ablative therapies. The selected person will be expected to work with medical students, residents, and fellows towards educating them in thyroid pathology. Excellence in performing US-guided fine needle aspirations (FNA) of thyroid nodules is expected.
A more detailed look at the inner workings of the Mayo Clinic group of thyroidologists will reveal:
- A collaborative approach and open discussions with the colleagues from the diagnostic and surgical specialties during the evaluation of thyroid pathology.
- A multidisciplinary, integrated specialty care clinic where patients will receive services from multiple specialties in one place, with specialists coming to the endocrine area for evaluating thyroid disease patients and having a direct conversation with the thyroidologist.
- A multidisciplinary thyroid tumor board discussion where patients are reviewed alongside pathologists, surgeons, radiologists, to determine best treatment strategies.
- This integrated care model leverages the experience and innovation of multiple specialties and fosters the development of:
- Ethanol ablation for select cases of thyroid carcinoma and metastatic lymph nodes
- RFA for select, consequential thyroid nodules
- Joint Thyroid Eye Disease Management Clinic
- Robust clinical resources and the possibility of protected time in a hybrid work model that provides support to those interested in research or educational endeavors.
