Jones StreetRaleigh, North Carolina 27601Primary Purpose of Position:The Digital Archivist for Online Programming is primarily responsible for the coordination and dissemination of the division’s education programming for online platforms, including social media and on-demand virtual programming. The archivist supervises the division’s social media accounts and reviews and approves online and on-demand programs. The position also oversees the Social Media and Outreach Committee (SMOC), which coordinates outreach content, community engagement, and related tasks. The archivist coordinates the schedule of programming with the Outreach Coordinator and reports to them on tasks dealing with education and educators. This position is highly collaborative and requires extensive contact with internal and external clients.Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee all division social media, including scheduling posts or posting content. Works with division staff to facilitate and coordinate online content creation.
  • Coordinate the schedule of programming with the Outreach Coordinator and report to them on tasks dealing with education and educators.
  • Chair the Social Media & Outreach Committee, including maintaining and updating its guidance, structure, and workflows.
  • In collaboration with NC DIT’s Digital Accessibility Community of Practice and division staff, evaluate the accessibility of division online resources and coordinate compliance with federal standards.
  • Create exhibits, videos, and other online resources to promote knowledge of archival collections, resources, and services.
  • Collect and report on division social media usage and statistics. Evaluate current outreach tools and identify new tools or best practices.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of the State Archives’ website

Position/Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work a weekly schedule of Monday-Friday, 8 hours each day.
  • Must be able to work occasional Saturday hours in the State Archives Search Room.

  • Demonstrated experience developing training and/or educational materials to present to government and/or public audiences.

  • Working knowledge of historical research methodology when providing specialized reference services, including conducting non-routine searches through large and complex variety of records to find the needed information.
  • Demonstrated experience writing and editing content for online publication.
  • Demonstrated experience giving presentations to others.

Management Prefers:

  • Working knowledge of North Carolina history, its people, its places, and the organization and operation of state and local governments in North Carolina, and/or genealogy practices.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a variety of stakeholders, including government officials, other employees, and the public to accomplish project goals.
