Job DescriptionGermanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. Full of history, the area offers a community rich with diversity, the arts, technology, vineyards, hiking, canoeing/kayaking, and many other activities.The Dean of Online Programs and Learning Support provides strategic leadership and vision for integrating advanced educational technology across all teaching modalities, including distance/online, face-to-face, hybrid, and HyFlex environments. This role is responsible for driving innovation in digital learning tools, supporting faculty and student proficiency in emerging educational technologies, and optimizing the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning.Additionally, the Dean of Online Programs and Learning Support provides leadership for Library Services, the Teaching and Learning Technology Team and online-only programs, including College Everywhere and future Germanna Global initiatives. The Director is responsible for the execution of related areas in the Academic Affairs and Student Services Master Plan.*This position is located in Virginia. KSA’s/Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Education, Educational Administration, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field.
- Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience managing and expanding distance education programs in higher education.
- Demonstrated expertise in instructional technologies, library management, learning support services, and associated resources.
- Proven experience integrating generative artificial intelligence into teaching and learning practices.
- Demonstrated experience in securing and managing grants or external funding for educational technology or online learning initiatives.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to effectively present, converse, and correspond in verbal, written, and electronic forms.
- Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to meet deadlines, multi-task, and manage complex projects with high effectiveness.
- Demonstrated effective management of diverse staff teams, including hiring, supervision, professional development, and performance management.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in online learning, with a focus on expanding access to underrepresented and non-traditional student populations.
- Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools
Additional Considerations
- Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Administration, Instructional Technology, Instructional Design, OR a degree in any other discipline with a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the development, implementation, and management of distance education programs at a regionally accredited institution.
- Direct experience in a higher education setting, with specific knowledge of contemporary distance education practices, adult learning theory, and associated technology platforms.
- Teaching experience in both in-person and online environments, demonstrating an understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities of each modality.
- Strong knowledge of AI applications in educational settings, including familiarity with adaptive learning, predictive analytics, and AI-driven student support systems.
- Familiarity with grant application and reporting processes, including demonstrated success in obtaining funding for technology-enhanced education projects.
- Expertise in project management and strategic planning, with a proven track record of leading multi-departmental initiatives in technology and program development.
