An emergency department nurse at the Royal Melbourne Hospital has tested positive for the coronavirus.
The hospital confirmed the case in a statement on Saturday night, saying cleaning and contact tracing was now underway.
“Any staff, patients or visitors who may have been affected have been informed and our Infection Prevention and Surveillance Service is providing support,” it said.
The hospital did not say how many patients and staff may have come into contact with the nurse.
The new case comes after Victoria recorded 41 fresh COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
Australia has recorded 7641 cases of coronavirus, with 3174 in New South Wales, 1987 in Victoria, 1067 in Queensland, 608 in Western Australia, 440 in South Australia, 228 in Tasmania, 108 in the ACT and 29 in the Northern Territory.
The death toll stands at 104.
