The School of Art, Design and Performance is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, innovative and highly-motivated candidate to the role of Research Associate in Product Design.

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the achievement of Buckinghamshire New University’s deliverables on the EU Horizon 2020 programme funded PANIWATER project (Grant no. 820718) which aims to provide safe drinking water for vulnerable communities across the globe using low-cost Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS) technologies.

Working with consortium members, you will be responsible for the planning, design and management of the production of transparent jerrycans (TJC) made of polypropylene (PP). You will also take a lead in the testing and evaluation the PP Jerrycans in Indian rural communities. You should be familiar with whole life cycle analysis and environmental risk assessment approaches. As part of this work there will be a requirement for fieldwork, site visits and overseas travel (mainly India) which will be funded by the project.

A product design background is essential with experience of working in the field on live projects and a PhD in the relevant field is highly desirable. A strong knowledge of materials and mass manufacturing methods, and good 3D CAD (ideally Solidworks) and manual prototyping skills are essential.
