Job description: POSITION OVERVIEWWe’re seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. The person will be responsible for preparing journal entries, accounts receivable, reconciling bank accounts, preparing financial statements and month end close. The accountant will function under the direction of the Controller. Note: this is an in-office position in downtown Nashville. Office hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. No relocation is offered; must be able to commute.PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Prepares journal entries and maintains monthly, quarterly, and annual general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepaids, and amortization/depreciations, to ensure accurate reporting and general ledger reliability
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties
- Manages invoice processes; generating customer invoices and reviewing for accuracy
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and closes monthly books
- Prepares monthly balance sheets, income statements and profit and loss statements
- Maintains and monitors Daily and Weekly revenue tracking from multiple sources
- Prepares and provides management with parking and AR reports
- Reconciles bank accounts, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks
- Reconciles cash disbursement, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manages accounts receivable
- Verifies and completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to appropriate accounts
- Provides outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents for annual audits
- Assists with yearly cam reconciliations
- Prepares and files tax returns with federal, state and local government agencies
- Maintains knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures
- Develops and documents business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) standards
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in a corporate accounting environment.
- Proven track record in managing financial operations for multiple properties or entities simultaneously
- Prior experience with Yardi and QuickBooks Online accounting software
Skills and Knowledge Required * Comprehensive understanding of accounting and financial principles (GAAP)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage large amounts of financial data efficiently.
- Ability to work independently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to sit at a desk for prolonged periods while working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
