Summary
This recruitment uses Direct Hire Authority (DHA) to quickly fill competitive service positions with qualified candidates in the Department of Defense workforce.
The vacancies are within the pediatric unit at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Washington.

Duties
- Deliver advanced specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients.
- Assist physicians with complex and potentially life-threatening procedures, including cardioversion and invasive line insertions.
- Initiate life-saving interventions promptly when life-threatening conditions are identified.
- Administer medications through various routes (oral, intramuscular, subcutaneous, intradermal, intravenous push).
- Monitor cardiac output, vital signs, peripheral perfusion, consciousness level, and interpret blood gas results.
- Provide continuous support and education to patients and families regarding disease processes, diagnostic procedures, medication effects, and pre/post-operative care.
Requirements & Conditions of Employment
- Subject to background investigation and personnel security checks due to work with children under 18.
- Must consent to seasonal influenza vaccination or provide an approved exemption.
- Position subject to drug testing (pre-employment and random).
- Pre-placement medical examination and immunization screening required; Hepatitis B immunization mandatory.
- Must obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Position involves shift work, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call duties.
- Moderate to heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required.
Qualifications
- Basic Nursing Requirement: Graduation from an accredited professional nursing program (diploma, associate, bachelor’s, or higher) recognized by an appropriate accrediting body at the time of completion.
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted professional nursing license from a U.S. state, territory, or D.C., and passage of the NCLEX exam.
- Experience: At least one year of professional nursing experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent, including pediatric and pediatric intensive care nursing, medication administration, and operation of specialized medical equipment.
- Foreign Degrees: Must be accompanied by certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.
- Federal employees continuously employed in the 0610 series since Sept 27, 2017, may qualify under certain exemptions.
