Job Description

Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead large, multi-disciplinary engineering projects, overseeing all technical aspects.
  • Develop original concepts, and prepare detailed designs based on Navy crane user needs, codes, and safety/cost criteria.
  • Integrate design and safety considerations in collaboration with Navy crane engineers to support the Crane Reliability, Improvement, and Safety Program (CRISP).
  • Provide expert consultation to Navy military and civilian personnel regarding Weight Handling Equipment (WHE).
  • Manage crane configuration and ensure compliance with Navy standards.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements (OPM Engineering Series 0800)

Applicants must meet one of the following:

  • A degree in professional engineering from an ABET-accredited school.
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Successful completion of the FE exam.
  • At least 60 semester hours in physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences.
  • A degree in a related science field plus one year of professional engineering experience under guidance.

Selective Placement Factor

You must be currently registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or Guam. Include a copy of your registration with your application.

Specialized Experience (GS-12 Equivalent)

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of experience:

  • Applying engineering knowledge of WHE (electrical, mechanical, or structural) to resolve complex technical issues.
  • Leading and executing WHE projects from planning through delivery.
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints, manuals, and schematics.
  • Independently organizing and scheduling work to meet deadlines.
  • Delivering technical reports and presentations to stakeholders.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and eligible for federal employment.
  • Subject to background investigation and must obtain/maintain a security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Travel may be required to domestic and overseas locations.
  • Must wear PPE (helmet, gloves, respirator, etc.) as needed.
  • DAWIA certification required (Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act).
  • Participation in the Direct Deposit Program is mandatory.

Additional Information

  • This position is under Direct Hire Authority for Certain Personnel of the DoD.
  • Incentives such as relocation bonuses or student loan repayment may be available.
  • Veterans’ preference does not apply under this hiring authority but supporting documents are still required if claimed.
  • Federal annuitants may be subject to hiring restrictions.
