Woolworths Meal Deals: How to save money on lasagne, garlic bread combo

As lockdown lifts and many of us put away our trackies to trickle back into the office for work, we’ve got less time in the kitchen to cook our meals.

Gone are the free hours to cook sourdough from scratch and (sob) who has time anymore to make anything in the slow cooker?

Fortunately for those of us that are time poor once again Woolworths has a solution – and it will actually save you money in the process.

Last week news.com.au spied in store a sign for a meal deal for four people that saved you $6.40 – a garlic bread, pork ribs and chicken wings for just $17.50.

Naturally we had to investigate, and discovered the deals, introduced in October last year, are a combo of different main meals and sides that vary from store to store.

What’s offered varies from store to store but can save you big if you’re looking to pull together a cheap dinner while on the go.

One of the most popular is a $10 meal deal for a 625g Latina fresh pasta, 700g Latina sauce and a garlic sourdough bread – which saves you $9.80 when bought together.

Another deal available is a 1.3kg Paster Master beef lasagne and a Woolies branded garlic bread loaf for $11, saving $6.90.

Woolworths head of chilled, bakery and deli Jason McQuaid told news.com.au the meal deal offers were about giving families value for money.

“Australians are living busier lives than ever and as we ease into the ‘new normal’, we know how important it is for families to get the most value from their shop,” he said.

“The meal deal makes it easy and affordable for customers to sort dinner on the go without having to cook from scratch, with some great savings to be made.”

Coles also has a deal in some stores where if a hot chicken isn't available, you can get it the next time for free.

It’s not the only sweet dinner deal that supermarkets have, if you know how to look.

In select Coles supermarkets if you miss out on a hot chook from their deli section because they are sold out you can get your next one for free.

When a post about the deal appeared on Facebook last year, Coles told news.com.au it was to make sure customers didn’t miss out.

“Our Coles hot roast chicken is one of our most popular items and we want to have them available at the times that our customers want them most,” the spokesman said.

“The offer is only available in select stores and times vary by location.”
