NZ man pleads to be deported

A New Zealand man who has been in a Sydney detention centre for three months waiting deportation is pleading with his transfer across the Tasman to go ahead.

Miles Morrell Rowe is desperate to see his dying father but deportations from Australia to New Zealand were suspended in March.

The 35-year-old who moved to Australia 15 years ago and lives with schizophrenia, was arrested and sentenced to a 10-month sentence.

He was issued with a deportation notice which he did not challenge and was meant to fly to New Zealand on March 23 after the completion of his jail term but was unable due to the worsening of the coronavirus pandemic.
