JAMES Bay has stayed shtum about his love life since he shot to fame.
But after writing a new album about his girlfriend, he has finally opened up about their 13-year relationship.
The singer-songwriter has revealed it was childhood sweetheart Lucy Smith who encouraged him to get into music in the first place – and she has been his rock through his career.
He said: “I’m a really private person.
“My home life is a very intimate thing for me but I’m ready to talk about her for the first time.
“These next singles and album are a bit of a tribute to the 13-year journey my girlfriend and I have been on.
“She’s the coolest person in the world.
“We were close friends before we were in a relationship.
“Back in the day, we would be sitting in on a Wednesday night watching TV, and she would say, ‘Hang on, if you want to be a big artist one day, surely you should be out in some pub or club playing some songs right now’.
“She instilled that in me, and I got out and did it.
“I wouldn’t be here without her.”
Grammy nominee James, who has sold 5million records since bursting on to the scene in 2014, releases new single Chew On My Heart tomorrow, the first from his as-yet-untitled third album due out later this year.
Talking about the single, he said: “It’s an outpouring of love, and that’s a huge theme across this new music.
“When I come home from tour, I burst through the door and throw my arms around my girl, and she’ll just say, ‘OK, relax, cool’.
“It’s cheesy, but I wrote it from that perspective.
“It’s the opposite of being guarded.
“In the past, I had often written from a place of sadness.
“During this process, I really zeroed in on what’s positive and great in my life.
“The lyrics really reflect that positivity.”
Some upbeat tunes are exactly what the world needs right now.
The record is the first fans have heard from James since his 2019 EP, Oh My Messy Mind.
And it’s clearly done him the world of good to not take too long off.
Ashley gets shirty
WHEN you have legs like Ashley Roberts, leaving your trousers at home isn’t an issue.
The Pussycat Dolls star showed off her perfect pins in an oversized shirt and red boots.
She is making the world her catwalk after reuniting with her bandmates, despite their tour being postponed to next year due to the pandemic.
But on wearing their raunchy stage outfits, she said this week: “I forgot what it felt like to wear latex, but it’s coming back . . . It came back real quick.”
Fuschia’s bright, Halsey
HALSEY has gone pink-haired and green-fingered while in lockdown.
The Without Me singer has harvested her own veg while stuck at home in the US.
She said: “I’m getting to know myself and reconnecting with myself – whether I’m in my garden growing vegetables or I’m getting to cook, because I don’t get to cook when I’m on tour.
“I grow some pretty mean green beans but also my cucumbers are starting to come in and I’m really excited about that.
“I feel like people read an interview with me and they think I’m going to have some crazy story to tell, and I’m like, ‘No, just growing vegetables’.”
Halsey, pictured enjoying a Magnum as part of a promotional campaign, was halfway through her European Manic tour when lockdown started – but she promises to return with a totally new show when concerts are permitted again.
She added: “It’s going to be a completely different tour.
“It’s a show that no one else will ever see again.”
NIALL Horan has been on a string of dates with a glamorous brunette.
The former One Direction singer has been dating Amelia Woolley, who works for posh shoe brand Nicholas Kirkwood, for two months, thanks to lockdown being eased.
Alok’s llama karma
DJ Alok reckons rock legend Mick Jagger is still a party animal.
He revealed his remix of Mick’s song Gotta Get A Grip in 2017 came about after he attended a strange bash the Rolling Stones frontman threw during the band’s 2016 tour.
In an exclusive chat, he recalled: “Mick was having a secret party in Brazil – my friend asked if I could play at this private party.
“When I arrived and the door opened, I saw this big dog, but then realised it was goats.
“I looked around and saw a monkey walking a llama. It was crazy.
“I got introduced to Mick and we started to talk.
“He told me he was releasing a single and would love it if I would collaborate with him.
“I was shocked. I had just seen a goat with a monkey and llama and Mick Jagger was asking me to collaborate.
“He told me his son loves my work.
“I told him my dad loves his work.”
Now Alok has teamed up with Jason Derulo for song Don’t Cry For Me, out today.
He was keen to do it after seeing how well Jason had done “reinventing” himself.
It’ll be on my playlist.

Nan grief for Anne
ANNE-MARIE says she has not felt “completely happy” since her nan died when the singer was a teenager.
The Birthday star said: “I feel like I was totally, completely happy until I was about 13. But I found out what real sadness was because my nan died.
“I had never experienced someone like that so close to me dying.
“Then obviously what I looked like came into play and being at school was so difficult.
“After, I held that in because I didn’t speak to anyone about it – then it got bad when I was older, as I didn’t talk about it.
“It’s more recently I’ve got better.”
Thankfully, pouring her feelings into her music has helped.
Anne-Marie added: “I didn’t realise but when I started writing music I was writing it about myself. I keep saying to people: ‘I’m getting better’ – but I’m still not better.”

Katy’s lost her Smile
SHE has just named her fifth album Smile, but Katy Perry looks less than impressed on the record’s artwork.
The mum-to-be, who is expecting a baby girl with fiancé Orlando Bloom, put on a clown nose and her saddest expression for the cover.
As well as being the title of her album, out on August 14, she will tomorrow released a song of the same name.
That should be enough to stop her fans looking as glum as she does in this picture.
